Week Ending Aug. 12th, 2023 – Construction update and outfitting

What began in molds a year ago with a vacuum resin infusion process producing light weight, strength and consistency of integrity, has evolved to a sailing vessel in the final stage of construction.

August of 2022:
Initial layup of hulls and resin infusion

Hulls joined and structural bulkheads going in

August of 2023:
Galley (Lisa’s fav) and forward facing nav station (Steve’s fav) are rounding into form

Tender davits have been installed (our daily commuting vessel will hang here while at sea)

The quality of the finish is reflected in Slainte

While the factory is hard at work finalizing the install of all systems and pulling her together for a potential Aug. 22nd splash date, we are doing what else ….spending like drunken sailors outfitting the boat.

Sheets, pillows, bedding, kitchenware, critical appliances etc. etc.. Our list is getting shorter as we navigate new stores, geographic areas, currency, different electrical voltages etc..

All while balanced with the acute awareness that weight is our enemy on a cat. Light is fast and fast is safe. However not to be dismissed, crew comfort also translates to safety, and such is the appeal of a modern day cat and our decision on a Vision 444.

The Vision 444 is a light weight cruising catamaran that in our journey for a live aboard vessel we found delivered the best balance between performance, comfort, the quality of the fit & finish and critically important, the safety features that we were looking for.

Since it is winter here in South Africa, I guess you could say it feels like the week before Christmas in anticipation….
