Our Story
The Heidenthals
And thus was the beginning of our current sailing journey….
What followed was purchasing a J boat, flying the canvas on Narragansett bay for countless hours, convincing Lisa that water can be your friend, and navigating the local hazards of coastal New England.
One of the great revelations and pleasures of this journey has been the happiness that comes from the quiet of just sails in a breeze and water against the hulls … all while being able to share with family and friends alongside.
Which brings us to our current adventure … Sailing Vessel Slainte.
Come along for the ride and join us for what we hope will be an experience of a lifetime.

The Plan
We are often asked- so, what is your plan? How long will you be on the boat? When will you be in this area so we can plan a trip to see you? While nothing is set in stone and we are at the mercy of the weather and winds (and life), this general plan should give you a good glimpse into the next two years that we intend to be on this adventure.
Fall 2023 – South Africa to Grenada
Fly home for the holidays
Winter 2024 – Grenada and the Windward Caribbean Islands
Late Winter/Early Spring 2024- Heading north towards the Leeward Caribbean islands
Spring 2024 – Journey north continues with stops to possible areas including Puerto Rico, Turks & Caicos, and various points along the US Eastern Seaboard while making our way home to Rhode Island
Summer 2024 – Arrive back in Rhode Island and spend the summer both at home and cruising around New England as far north as Maine
Fall 2024 – Begin the journey back south stopping at various points along the US Eastern Seaboard
Fly home for the holidays
Winter/Spring 2025 – Cruising around the upper Bahamas, Exumas, and potentially the Ragged Islands
Spring 2025 – Journey north begins with stops to various points along the US Eastern Seaboard while making our way home to Rhode Island
Summer 2025 – Arrive back in Rhode Island and spend the summer both at home and cruising around New England
That is currently where our two-year plan ends. We are living in the moment and not projecting beyond summer 2025 at this point. We are so excited to have you all following along (and visiting us) on this exciting journey!

Grenada Arrival
Grenada arrival. Slainte Atlantic crossing completed. “Dec 7th, a day which will live in infamy” FDR How fitting to sail into Grenada on such a historic day in the history of the United States (and the world), although 72 years later to the day this sunrise would...
